Sex racket: Rocks Kerala State Assembly

Trivandrum, India, Jul. 11 2002 (INS News) --
The Kerala State Assembly witnessed noisy scenes with the Opposition alleging. the police official who was arrested in a police raid on a brothel, was permitted to escape from custody following the intervention of Chief Ministers Office.

Replying to a notice for adjournment motion moved by Opposition leader V.S. Achutanandan over the issue, Chief Minister A.K. Antony denied the allegation and informed the House that the accused police officer, has been placed under suspension, and a probe ordered in to his escape from Police custody.

The Opposition benches protested when Antony added that it was during the Left Democratic Front headed by Communist Party of India {Marxist} rule that Chief Minister's office use to interfere in such matters. Speaker denied permission to the notice, after Antony's reply.

The Opposition parties staged a walkout, on alleging the connivance of the Chief Minister's office in helping the police officer, accused in the sex racket, to jump the police custody.
