Sex Racket Busted, 9 Others Held: Police Official

Trivandrum, India, Jul. 9 2002 (INS News) --
The Keral State police on Sunday night busted a call girl racket and arrested ten people, including a Police Official of Kerala State police from a rented house in Kumarapuram, Thiruvananthapuram, capital city of the state of Kerala city.

According to reports,the police official, Mohammed Iqbal,in the rank of Deputy Superintendent, is presently posted in the Trivandrum International airport. Others arrested are Shani (29) from Kannur, Kavitha (23), Asha (28), Hari (30) and Sreekumar (30). Raji, from Thiruvananthapuram who took the house in Poonthi Road in Kumarapuram, has also been arrested. The police said that the three girls are students of the Music College in the city.

The police have refused to divulge further information. The accused, except the police official, have been taken to the Medical College police station to record their statements.

However the police refused to give information about where the police officer is presently lodged. The others will be presented before the Magistrate in the evening.

The Museum police team conducted the raid following a tip off.
